Client Overview

WinZip, headquartered in Ontario, (Canada) is a shareware file archiver and compressor for Windows, MacOS, iOS and Android developed by WinZip Computing (formerly Nico Mak Computing). It can create archives in Zipping file format and unpack some other archive file formats.

Business Challenge

Winzip application was built in Perl and C and was written 15 years back. The process to make any changes in the website was painful and time-consuming. It used to take more than half a day for making even minor changes in the system.

Solution Approach

Hashedin, re-architected the complete legacy system by building next generation application in python and Django from perl/cgi-bin/c along with some continuous integration and automation to ensure changes reflect within 5 min and just at a click of a button. As a part of the process, the following activities were carried out.

  • A/B testing was done to ensure the conversion was optimised
  • Modernized ,trained and transferred

Results Delivered

Winzip was handed over a system that was totally re- architected using python and Django. With this new system in place, Winzip could make any sort of changes within a matter of few seconds. This assignment was accomplished in just 10 weeks.
